It’s officially summertime! 

Now that more people are out and about enjoying the beautiful sunshine, we all know what this means… more opportunities to drive that traffic over to your spa! 

But that’s not it. 

Summer marks the halfway point of the calendar year. WOW isn’t that crazy? It feels like we JUST celebrated the New Year.

But let’s talk about those resolutions!

Personally, I don’t stress too much over the whole ‘resolutions’ thing because it’s really just a state of mind.

Of course, it’s great to have that boost of enthusiasm where you literally feel like NOTHING is impossible in the new year. But why limit yourself to only having that winning mindset at the start of the year when you can maintain it throughout the year and therefore increase your chances of conquering each and every resolution you made. 

It’s always time to hustle

A big mistake most spa owners make is that they allow the start of a new year to become a sign that it’s time to start hustling but then fall off the hustle bandwagon as things start to get tough throughout the year.

Don’t fall into that trap.

It’s ALWAYS time to hustle… especially when things get tough. 

If you really want to accomplish everything that’s on your resolution to-do list and more, you’ve got to embrace the mindset that you must treat each day as a new beginning! 

Perhaps so much is going on that you can’t even remember what your goals are, or maybe you didn’t even get around to setting them. But if you’re feeling like you’ve somehow fallen off track with what you hoped to accomplish by the end of the year, there’s still time to reset your goals and to figure out an action plan! 

Here are a couple of simple but powerful steps to guide you through it! 

1.     Focus

So we’ve reached the halfway point of 2019 and you’re not on the right track to meet the goals you set out for the year… what now? 

The first step is to re-focus on everything you set out to do 6 months ago. Just because you missed the boat on your goals or feel like you’re falling behind, don’t let this stop you from picking that momentum right back up for the last 6 months. 6 months is actually plenty of time!

What’s the #1 reason spa owners fall off track when it comes to keeping up with their goals? They get overwhelmed. They get overwhelmed with all the things that keep piling up on their to-do list (that’s already way too long) and even when they do manage to strike a couple of things off that list… it still feels like they’re not getting ANYWHERE. Can you relate? 

Take a moment out of your busy schedule to reassess your priorities 

Get clear once again on what you are working towards and why you are working towards it. Then you can accurately assess which things on your never-ending to-do list will move the needle and which ones won’t.

Next, make those things that WILL move the needle your #1 priority! Use this to guide you in how you manage your expectations for everything else… don’t forget there’s always the option of outsourcing certain things on your to-do list. 

Something you should ask yourself every single day? Actually, just about anytime something new slides across your desk… is this going to help me achieve my goals? 

If the answer is no, then ask yourself whether or not it can wait. Because you’ve already got a million and one things to do and chances are they’re much higher up on your list of priorities. 

Setting boundaries and allowing for sacred uninterrupted time around the things that are going to propel you ahead is key.  

You do have the power to make that happen. 

2.     Cut yourself some slack

To accomplish the goals that you set out for your spa, it’s going to take strength, resilience, and tons of grit! As a spa owner, you’ve got one of the toughest jobs out there. Aside from being responsible for everyone else, sometimes it seems like there is no one else that YOU can turn to.  And if we are just being real here… balls will drop, and that’s ok. 

I know it can get pretty rough and as much as you need to push through that and embrace the grind sometimes, you also need to know when to cut yourself some slack.  No one wants your spa to be successful as much as YOU do. If things really got derailed, don’t torture yourself over it. 

Don’t blame yourself for things that don’t go as planned. 

Things will always go wrong.  We have to always be focusing on the solution rather than dwelling on the problem. 

Instead of stressing yourself out over what you haven’t accomplished, look back on how far you’ve actually come. Remind yourself of all the hard work and long hours you’ve put in over the year. 

Ask yourself the important questions. Which obstacles have you overcome? What have you accomplished? Did you learn from every challenge you’ve faced? Are you proud of anything?

This will help you keep up a positive mindset. 

3.     Turn every negative experience into a learning opportunity

Never ever let yourself linger on any negative feelings or ‘mistakes’ you think you’ve made. Every single experience – positive or negative – is a learning opportunity. The key here is to recognize what went wrong, as yourself what could have been done differently and quickly move to solution-based thinking. 

Let’s say you came up with a promotion and really thought a lot of money would start rolling in… but it didn’t. And you even lost some money. 

Rather than dwelling on the negative, focus on the positive. In this case, rather than thinking of this experience as a failure, the key here is to learn from what went right and wrong. 

I like to think of it as having an Entrepreneurial Mindset (because true entrepreneurs are always ready to tackle whatever life throws at them). 

How to jump into the entrepreneurial mindset? 

This is what it would look like…


Okay, so I came up with this promotion and really thought it would bring the spa a ton of money… but it didn’t. 

Identify the lesson

What did I learn from this experience? Could anything have been done differently? Is there anything that I should improve on?

Solution and Forward Thinking 

What can I do differently as I take action moving forward? 

The silver lining to everything that feels like an epic fail is that you learn so much more from the things that go wrong than the things that go right without us having to put too much effort into it. 

So much of what I know now in my business has come out of everything wrong that happened. Everything that even for a short time had me feeling like a failure. 

4.     Start planning

 Now that you’ve got a better sense of what went wrong or what you could’ve done differently, it’s time to take action! 

Start planning. 

Remember, you do have 6 whole months left to kick some serious butt. 

This is the time to reset your goals and to gain clarity in your situation. Take a look at your current situation and be realistic. Figure out the map that can get you from where you are right now to where you want to end up just like we did 6 months ago.

Where do you want to be in 6 months? Now to get there, where do you have to be in 3 months? And to get to that point, what do you have to accomplish each week leading up to that 3-month mark?

Break everything down into smaller steps. This will make your goals seem well within your reach! 

First, you need to stay organized. Make sure you’re writing things down and time block your weeks (so you can keep enjoying the sacred time for the things that are important to you).

Execute self-discipline to get the job done! 

 Accomplishing our goals is the easy part. Enforcing self-discipline is the hard part.  

There are no shortcuts when it comes to achieving your goals. You must be open to having an open and honest conversation with yourself about what’s working and what isn’t. But the key here is that you must be willing to put in the WORK. And when things get really really hard (and they will), you’ve got to keep pushing! 

Leverage the Right Resources

This will be the easiest and fastest way for you to meet those goals and it will help you generate revenue FAST.
